As we close out 2020, we must look back at the year when Kenny Omega helped push professional wrestling forward. Eventhough it was in 2017 when Omega proved to be the best wrestler on the planet. This year, we got to see him slowly go from being in a fantastic tag team with Adam Page to becoming the World Champion of AEW. Not only did he have countless memorable matches, but he did it at a time where wrestling shows weren’t allowed to have fans in the crowd besides other wrestlers. On February 29, 2020, Kenny Omega & Adam Page entered a match with their elite brothers The Young Bucks, and it would steal the show at the All Elite Wrestling Revolution pay-per-view. The match’s storytelling and high spots should be used in wrestling school to show future stars how to incorporate high spots with great storytelling.

Tyson Smith was born October 16, 1983, in Transcona, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He would go on to become known by his ring name Kenny Omega. As a professional wrestler, Omega is best known for his time as a New Japan pro wrestler. He held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP United States championship, and the Intercontinental Championship, among other titles. In June of 2018, Omega would have all eyes on him when he competed against Kazuchika Okada in a two out of three falls match at Dominion 6.9 In Osaka-Jo Hall. The match would become the first match in history to receive a seven-star rating from Combat sports journalist Dave Meltzer.

In 2019 Omega would sign a four-year deal with All Elite wrestling where Cody Rhodes and Matt and Nick Jackson would serve as executive Vice Presidents of the promotion and being an in-ring talent. In Kenny’s first year in AEW, he would compete in matches against wrestlers like Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley. Omega and Moxley would have a feud that would reach its peak at The AEW Winter Is Coming television special. Kenny would get his revenge when he was defeated by Moxley in an unsanctioned Lights outmatch. Omega lost the first match when he came to Moxley’s hardcore world but would win the match when it was under regular professional wrestling rules. Omega being crowned the new heavyweight champion of AEW, went with many Controversies when Impact Wrestling Executive Vice President Don Callis, who was doing guest commentary for the match helped Kenny win the match. After the match, they immediately left the building. They were about to get into a car when Don Callis responded to the interviewer, saying Omega will explain things next Tuesday on impact birthing the working relationship between AEW and Impact. Kenny would address the wrestling world on Tuesday and hint at a professional wrestling takeover. Kenny made it clear that he was interested in adding more titles to his Collection. Let’s not forget that Omega is already a double champion right now with the AAA Mega championship around his waist as well.

It will be interesting to see what other titles The Cleaner Kenny Omega adds to his Collection. If I had a guess, the Impact world title would be first, then The NWA world title. Only time will tell where Omega shows up next.
