The latest, installment of the rapper’s space Trilogy arrives 11 years after the game-changing original that helped launch the career of one of this generation’s great musicians.

If you’re my age, then you remember the moment when you first heard the first Man on The Moon, from 2009, I was a junior in high school and had became a fan of Kid Cudi a year earlier when I went to my cousin Myspace page and heard “Day ’n’ Nite’ for the first time. There was something different about Kid Cudi that made me want to learn more about him and his music. Once I found out he was from Ohio I became an instant fan because It was rare to find an artist who poured their heart out and could sing and rap the way that Cudi was doing. Cudi music was a breath of fresh air at the time because it was a time in the industry where rappers were more focused on dance songs and putting out catchy hooks to get radio play. Cudi was able to create a catchy song and get radio play without creating a generic dance song.

Now here we are 11 years later with, Man on The Moon III: The Chosen an album that once again proves how important Kid Cudi musical career is even in 2020. The style that Cudi helped create you can hear in artists now such as Travis Scott and a Young Thug. The last time we got to see Cudi do the magic he is known for was on his Kanye collaborative project — Kids See Ghost which was met with Universal acclaim once again showing that Kid Cudi is one of this generation’s most influential acts.

The Act one tracks “ Another Day”, Tequilla Shots” and “She Knows This” was Cudi using the artist that he influenced style, but doing it better because he added his Kid Cudi flavor to the sings so that they didn’t sound like they were ripping any other artist style. Cudi is at his best when he is adding his psychedelic spin to tracks. Other songs such as “Show out” featuring Skepta and the beloved Pop Smoke scream hit single that will be played on UK and US airwaves. To hear Cudi’s voice mix well with Pop Smoke’s raspy voice is a happy/ sad moment because of the young star being taken away before his big break came.

The Man on The Man on The Moon III: The Chosen album is an album where Mr. Rager is embracing his 11-year journey to where he is at today. He gives us the sadness and feeling like there’s no way out on Trappy type beats. The third installment of the “ Man on The Moon series is like watching a VH1 behind the music episode where the artist embraces his journey in life so that he can be at a point where his past demons are just that something of the past that he can learn from.

It’s not clear if this is the final installment of the man on the moon series, but one thing is clear that Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi is back and he’s here to stay this time around. The once Kid named Cudi has become a Man named Cudi who is here to embrace his legendary status in the music industry.
